- Sam Pitman is the best story in college football right now.
- Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh doesn’t get the respect he deserves
- If COVID-19 takes a team out of play, what does that mean for the playoffs
Guest Aaron Torres opened this week’s The JBoy Show with the following statement: “Having the Big Ten back this weekend felt like a normal Saturday.” Torres joined Jake Crain on The JBoy Show on Oct. 27, 2020, to discuss college football and big headlines in the conference.
According to Torres, Sam Pitman is the best story in college football right now.
“Arkansas this weekend is really dangerous, a very dangerous game for Texas A&M,” said Crain. “But I agree Sam Pitman is one of the best stories — if not the best — in college football.”
Next on the agenda was Auburn. This last weekend the team came back and beat Ole Miss. Next weekend the Tigers go up against LSU.
“Did I tell you Bo Nix was going to be a problem, or did I tell you Bo Nix was going to be a problem?” Torres reminded Crain. Torres has no strong opinion beyond Auburn being consistent, consistently not good. Every week the team seems to be holding on tight in the last few minutes, he observed.
Missouri appears to have a good chance against Florida in the coming game. Missouri’s team played hard the entire game against Alabama and struggled with Tennessee the next weekend but put up points each time. Torres stated that Missouri might be hitting Florida at the right time.
As for Kentucky, Crain asked Torres if he believes they’ll be able to move the ball. While Kentucky fans seem to think Joey Gatewood is the savior of the program, Torres has doubts. He believes Kentucky’s offense is going to struggle against Georgia’s defense.
Torres had a lot to say about Jim Harbaugh and the lack of credit he receives for what he accomplishes. “When he loses, he’s the most overrated coach in the history of the sport. When he beats good teams well, he’s Jim Harbaugh. That’s what he is supposed to do,” he said. With a 25-point win on the road to open the season, Torres was amazed that no one was talking about Michigan and Harbaugh.
“With the Pac-12 not having started yet, do you let a 7 and 0 team in the playoff?” asked Crain. The answer is complicated as COVID may make it impossible for some teams to complete all of their scheduled games. If this is the case, the committee will have a difficult job deciding which teams qualify.
Big Ten policy is to have players sit out for 21 days following a positive COVID_19 test. If a Big Ten team was to experience what Florida recently went through, their season would be over, the two noted. And there is no scenario where everyone can play a full nine-game schedule if games need to be rescheduled.
Of course, there is one fun fact no one is talking about, the two sports enthusiasts agreed: 2020 is delivering an extra three weeks of college football.
This conversation with Aaron Torres can be found, along with all the JBoy Show podcast episodes, on Anchor, iTunes/Apple, Spotify, Google, Breaker, Overcast, PocketCasts, RadioPublic or YouTube.
Hosted by Jake Crain, the JBoy Show burst on the podcast scene in April 2020, delivering an in-depth look at Southeastern Conference (“SEC”) sports with an emphasis on the SEC West. With topics ranging from recruiting and real-life athlete experiences to a multi-episode series honoring legendary Auburn football Coach Pat Dye, the JBoy Show has already been ranked as one of the top-10 sports news shows on Apple Podcasts.
