Located within the Saxony region, the town of Freiberg has a long and storied mining history dating back to 1168 AD, when the first silver ore was found in the surrounding areas to the town. By the 16th Century, mining in the Erzebirge, or ‘Ore’ Mountains, had turned Saxony into one of Europe’s wealthiest kingdoms.
